At Least 20 People Drown While Fleeing Bandit Attack in Zamfara

Reports indicate that over 20 people have lost their lives in the Kali area of Gumi Local Government in Zamfara State as they attempted to escape a bandit attack.

Katsina Times has learned that their boat capsized in a river.

According to a local resident who requested anonymity, the bandits surrounded the village at 1:00 PM last Sunday.

“The bandits were seen approaching Kalli village on motorcycles, armed with sophisticated weapons, which forced the villagers to flee for their lives,” the resident reported.

He stated that the boat capsized in the Birnin Magaji River, resulting in the deaths of 20 people.

He further revealed that five bodies were recovered from the Falale River, four from the Birnin Magaji River, and three from the Gadar Gummi River.

Additionally, the bandits have been terrorising the communities of Kwammaka, Kwammaka Jibi, Kwammaka Mai Katsina, Kalli, and Kazura, all in Gummi Local Government Area.

The police force has yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
